Jesse Munn Wins 4WD Modified Buggy at NCT Rd.5 in Burlington!

Jesse Munn 1st, Kevin Soukoroff 5th

Round #5 of the Northwest Championship Tour at Skagit River Raceway in Burlington, WA was an amazing event! The 3 day race featured a Joey “The Dirt” Christensen track that provided great racing in all classes. Not even a rain-shortened Friday practice could dampen the excitement of the weekend.

My Tekno EB410 equipped with a T-250 servo, RSX Pro and Gen 3 5.5 motor was perfect. A TQ and win against a very tough field in the Mod 4wd Buggy class!

Jared Wiggins Claims Top Spot in 1/8 E-Buggy at the Labor Day Challenge!

Had a blast racing the Labor Day Challenge this weekend at Clark RC Park! It’s always a good time there thanks to Tim Clark! We ran a different format than usual with a seeding round and then double mains for all classes. I was able to Top Seed both Nitro Buggy and E-buggy after a close run with Collin! In E-buggy I would take the wins in A1 and A2 after some great racing with Collin until he had an electrical problem taking him out of A2 early. In Nitro Buggy it just wasn’t my weekend for mains, I would run out of gas in A1 and have some issues in A2. I tried my best to come back and would end up 3rd overall. Congrats to Collin and Alex on their finishes! Huge thanks to Travis for all the pit help, and running to get my car when I decided to stay out too long! Thanks to all my Sponsors for their support!

Tekin K-55 Rally Raid Truck Build

In 2017, we returned from Axialfest with the crazy dream of building a 1/10 Rally Truck like you’d see in the Dakar and Silkway Rally Raids. I am a big rally fan, but those big 10 ton trucks racing at speeds up to 120mph across all kinds of terrain for days on end is just intriguing and spectacular to watch. With the support of some amazing companies, we were able to bring that project to life. When that project, named the M-55 was complete and Axialfest 2018 was over, we immediately dove headfirst into the next truck build. It had to be bigger, better and faster. More features, cleaner layout and wiring and back up its looks with performance. It is safe to say, the new K-55 delivers everything we hoped it would.

We started with the basics, which included a massive pile of Vanquish Products aftermarket parts for the SCX10-II and Bomber platforms, bearings from Fast Eddy Bearings, King shocks and 2.2 ZXL tires from RC4WD, a 2-speed SCX10-II transmission and a couple WB-8HD driveshaft kits from Axial Racing. There are LED bars from Pro-Line Racing, more LEDs from the interwebs soldered up by yours truly, an ESS ONE+ sound module and of course, Tekin gear to push the beast, shift gears and steer. 2 ProTek LiHV 8200mAh packs provide the go juice for the RX4 speed controller, the 2300kV ROC412 HD brushless motor, the T-440 steering servo and the T-120 shift servo. The livery is custom Tekin-designed and printed by SOR Graphics. Check the end for the complete build sheet and truck specs!

Adam Drake Wins JBRL Rd. 5!

Wild West Raceway in Winchester, Ca hosted round 5 of the JBRL Niro Series last weekend.  It was a great turnout with over 125 entries.  Adam Drake was the top qualifier in nitro buggy, but suffered a flameout during a pitstop and fought his way back to third.  Drake took the victory in electric buggy followed by Jared Wiggens and C.J Jelin.

Electric Buggy:

Mugen Seiki MBX8 Eco Team Edition buggy.

Tekin RX8 GEN3 and Tekin T8 GEN3 1900 KV motor.

Joe Bornhorst wins 2019 ROAR 1/8 Electric Title!

This years ROAR 1/8 Electric Nationals was held at Adrenaline RC Raceway in Winchester, Virginia which was luckily only a 5 hour drive for me. I made the drive down on Tuesday to finish getting things prepped and then practice started on Wednesday. From the first time on the track I felt very comfortable with all of my cars and knew I was going to have a good shot at racing for the titles.

Throughout seeding and qualifying it became quite clear that where you started in the main events was going to be crucial because there was not very many passing opportunities on this layout, so clean runs and good points were a must. At the end of qualifying, I ended up in the TQ spot in Truggy, 4th in SCT and 7th in Buggy after some really close runs with the rest of the drivers in attendance.

For the mains, we had Triple A Mains on tap for all 3 classes. For Buggy starting in 7th, I knew I was going to have to be pretty aggressive to make anything happen results wise. I tried my best, but with some rough luck I was only able to end up 8th overall. In SCT, I had some really good races with both Tebo and Lutz and was able to grab the last podium spot in 3rd. In Truggy, I was able to take advantage of my TQ spot and put in two clean runs in A1 and A2 to take the wins and grab my 2nd ROAR National Championship!

Overall, it was a great weekend for me and I’m proud of my results. Thank you to all of the companies that back me and allow me to do my job to the best of my ability!

Tekin Builds EP.8 – TLR 8IGHT-X E Electronics Install

This episode covers the electronics installs. An RX8 GEN3, T8 GEN3 and T-250 Servo go in the 8IGHT-X E and Ty also covers some soldering tips, shows how to center and set servo end points (EPAs) and shows how to calibrate the RX8 GEN3. Lastly, setting the proper voltage cutoff is very important so you don’t damage your LiPOs! The RX8 GEN3 has a 2S cutoff out of the box, so if you want to run 3-6S you have to set the proper cutoff.
