Calibrating the ESC to your radio is a 100% necessary procedure! This ensures that you are getting full throttle and full brake/reverse when using your ESC. Improper calibration can lead to some odd behavior and can prevent settings like Drag Brake and Turbo from working properly. You should radio calibrate anytime you:
First install a new Tekin ESC.
Flash the firmware in the ESC.
Replace a receiver.
Change a radio or set to a different model on the radio.
With the VS4-10 build mostly finished, I’ve started in on a new E-Buggy build; the new TLR 8IGHT-X E! Join in as I assemble the buggy kit to [almost] roller state covering differentials, shocks, the front clip, the rear clip and the main chassis.
Putting some miles and beauty marks on the VS4-10! It was sunny and cold over the weekend (40F cold) and windy, but that didn’t stop me from taking the VS4-10 out on my home trail and running some semi-comp lines. I made some small changes since the maiden voyage, which were going up 10wt in rear shock oil and gearing down from a 13T to a 10T pinion. The change in shock oil was just to slow down the rear shock compression/rebound a bit which made the truck even more stable in the real tricky terrain. Gearing down 3T on the pinion gave me even more smooth low-end control, which is always welcome. I try to drive as smooth as possible and keep the movement scale. I did lose a little wheel speed, but 4S and a 2300kV provides plenty of snap when I need it!
Our first ever Fan Photo Friday competition went down over the past couple of weeks and after narrowing the field down to 4 weekly finalists, a winner was decided by their peers in a public vote! Kyle Joseph submitted this fantastic custom 6×6 LC70 Adventure build in week one and I knew it would be a contender.
The weather finally decided it was going to cooperate, so we loaded up the Jeep and took the Origin out for a 4 hour long maiden voyage! After just a 45 minute drive, we found some really fun spots along the Salmon River to get a feel for the Origin and put some scratches on it. The truck did amazing and the 4S RX4 ROC412 2300kV system was perfect!
Tekin Ceramic Motor Bearings are a great way to get even better performance from your GEN3 / SPEC-R brushless motor! Extremely low friction and precision manufacturing provides a noticeable increase in motor RPM output while lowering the drag and increasing efficiency! Grab a set for yourself and feel the difference!
The VS4-10 is a driver! Ty finishes up the paint work, body and interior assembly, puts the wheels and tires together and installs the simple LED kit. Now that the truck is ready to hit the trails, it’s time to take it out and put some miles on it!
Part Three of the Vanquish VS4-10 Origin build covers installing and soldering the RX4 Speed Control as well as a few Quickstart tips like setting the proper Voltage Cutoff, setting the Motor Type and Calibrating the ESC to the radio. Ty also goes over centering the T-360 servo and setting the endpoints.
