Vanquish Products VS4-10 Phoenix Portal Build Part 1! Finally, let’s see the build man!
The VS4-10 Phoenix is a brand new rig from Vanquish Products featuring new F10 Portal Axles in plastic (yes, plastic!), the new VFD Twin transmission, new SC8E shocks, new Phoenix truck style body and new IDS-10 driveshafts. New with some more new and a little more new on top of the already proven VS4-10 platform!
F10 PORTAL AXLES
The F10s are a new plastic portal axle that made their appearance in the Phoenix kit. Loaded with machined gears, heavy duty VDI universal shafts, 6mm stub axles and brass axle tube inserts, the F10s are sure to provide tons of performance at a great value.
VS4-10 CHASSIS
The VS4-10 chassis has been around for a few years now. It is a proven platform that offers great performance and a perfect base for custom builds. Tons of bracing give a stiff chassis and the rear fuel cell receiver box is a bonus, especially on the Phoenix since we can see it though the bed! For steering I installed a T-440 servo, which will provide about 440oz/in torque at 6V and closer to 500oz/in on high voltage. It has a 20mm Vanquish clamping servo arm installed.
VFD TWIN TRANSMISSON
The VFD Twin rocks, plain and simple. It brings a whole new level of functionality to scale trail rigs, offering drivers not only a rear dig, but a selectable front Overdrive. What’s the Overdrive? In a nutshell, you can choose between 6.5% and 33% on the fly. This means you can send more power to the front wheels when needed, which can help immensely with turning radius and climbing steep inclines. Both DIG and OD are controlled each by a T-120 Lo-Profile servo, so shifting while moving is smooth as butter. Unfortunately we only got as far as the main transmission in this part of the build, the Twin transfer case will be in part 2.
A ROC412 3100KV 4-Pole brushless motor is the powerplant in my Phoenix and will be ran on 3S LiPo with the stock 15T pinion to check out performance, but I will likely end up gearing it down for even better low speed control.
