On June 9th 170+ entries arrived at Coyote Hobbies for the 2nd Annual Mid-Summer Shootout. \u00a0TLR was the headline sponsor for the event held at Dave and Mona Batta\u2019s facility in Victorville,CA. \u00a0There was a class for anyone at this event ranging from Rookie to Pro as well as special classes for the Lil\u2019 Coyote\u2019s (kids under 10 years of age). \u00a0The event was run on a brand new layout and the groove came up quickly on the clay surface and provided a surface for some fierce battles throughout the day.<\/p>\n

In Pro Stock Truck it was TLR\u2019s Keith Whisler who set the early TQ with his Tekin RS<\/a>\/Redline<\/a> powered TLR 22T. \u00a0Although challenged in the second round of qualifying, the first round time held up and would ensure that Whisler would line up first on the grid for the 7 minute main event. \u00a0At the start of the Truck main Whisler would build up a cushion after taking the hole shot. \u00a0It looked like clear sailing for Whisler until about the half-way point when little mistakes started costing him. \u00a0As Whisler started catching lapped traffic the lead grew even slimmer, until Whisler went wide approaching the \u201ccross-over\u201d and needed a marshal to get him straight again. \u00a0As much as he tried, Whisler was just not able to make up the time and brought home the 2nd place position.<\/p>\n

In Pro Stock SCT, Whisler would again take the TQ position with his Tekin RS<\/a>\/Redline<\/a> powered Losi XXX-SCT. \u00a0This time though, there was heavy pressure being applied by Shultz throughout the day which guaranteed there would be a fight to the finish in the 7 minute main event. \u00a0 The start of the SCT main event saw Whisler get out to a small margin while the rest of the pack battled for position. \u00a0However, Shultz was right behind Whisler to keep him honest. \u00a0 After several minutes of bumper to bumper racing out of the pair, it was Shultz who was able to build up a lead. \u00a0With only laps to go in the race, Whisler made one last attempt to overtake Shultz coming over the \u201ccross-over\u201d section. \u00a0Unfortunately the move would not stick and Whisler again settled with second place in the competitive class.<\/p>\n
