Team Tekin Driver Ben Burtle wins at 2010 Hobby Haven Shootout!

This annual race takes place over 2 days and this year’s event had a record 214 entries. Sunday was reserved for all nitro classes, 1/8th Electric Buggy, and an Open 4WD Short Course Truck class which was a new class offered for this year’s race.

Team Tekin driver Ben Burtle landed the TQ spot in 1/8th Electric Buggy after setting the fastest times in all 3 qualifying rounds. Ben also competed in the new Open 4WD Short Course Truck class and was able TQ round 2 and qualify 2nd overall the A Main.

Originally, both of these classes were set to run 10 minute AAA mains to decide the overall winner. But the weather wasn’t cooperating that day with scattered thunderstorms in the area, so the race directors decided upon a single 10 minute A main for each class to crown the 2010 champion.

In the 1/8th Electric Buggy A Main Ben got off to a rough start and 2nd overall qualifier David “Fasty” Fast was out in front with the early lead. But after Dave got tied up with lap traffic Ben was able to take the lead for good and lap the entire field by crossing the line before time had expired. David “Fasty” Fast ended up second and Dave Darrow finished 3rd. All 3 were running Tekin RX8 systems.

Two new ROAR National Titles for the Tekin RS esc!

Practice for this year’s ROAR Onroad Nationals was scheduled Wednesday and Thursday, qualifying Friday and Saturday, all mains to be ran on Sunday.

During qualifying it was clear that in any of the spec classes you had to have Tekin. Over 70% of the entire race group was using the Tekin RS line of esc's. Tekin Team manager Randy Pike was there in full support mode offering the latest Vegas 208 software upgrade and expert advice to any racer that needed it. Early on there were other esc’s being tested but none could match the overall speed of the Tekin RS. The latest 208 software was showing the improved braking on the track and cooler overall motor temps.

After qualifying Tekin users would be Tq of every stock class at the Nationals. This included WGT, 1/12 GTP, and Expert TC 17.5. That is domination. Interesting to note is that NONE of the Tq drivers are sponsored by Tekin. They all chose to run Tekin!

Brian Shook would lock down the first ROAR title in Expert WGT using a Tekin RS. Brian had a flawless run in A3 to secure his ROAR title. Congratulations Brian!

Mark Burt travelled all the way from Florida to attend the ROAR Paved Nats. Mark was rewarded for his hard work with the highly competitive Expert TC 17.5 class TQing with his blazing fast lap times. Mark would have stiff competition from Martin Crisp, Cory Harpke, James Arluck, and Ej Evans. Mark locked it down in A3 with a near faultless run securing the National Title! Congratulations!

Round 5 North West Regional win! Sunday the 25th of July was the 5th round of the BRCA North West Regional Championships held at the Southport Radio Car Club.

The weather was good for the entire day with the odd threat of rain that never really came. The track was a similar layout to the National track run the week before I was confidant I could achieve a good result.

As always in the dry at Southport the grip was immense, and the onus was on making the car easy to drive in practice as the track is very hard to go clean on for 5 minutes. Practice is always busy at the NW Regionals, but never the less I was happy with my car heading into the first round.

Qualifying: I was pretty much “best of the rest” in qualifying all day, taking 2,3,2,2 in rounds, but closing the gap on pace to the very quick local driver Colin May every run, gridding up second behind him on the A main grid.

A Final: The start was fairly regulation until half way around the lap, when Gareth Hill muscled past dropping me down to 3rd, but only a couple of corners latter he made a mistake, allowing me back to chase Colin. It was on lap 2 that all hell broke loose. Colin threw it off the track and at the same time there was a huge crash behind me, the outcome being I was leading by about 8 seconds. From this point I didn’t really look back, just regulating the gap and only doing what was needed and certainly not troubling many apexes!

The race finished with me taking my first, and Durangos first, North West Regional win. A nice birthday present! Fellow Tekin Driver Stu Evans finished third.

Thanks to Paul Rotheram for the pictures.

Tony wins SC Nats

Tekin would like to welcome Brad Bender Dumont and Scott Hughes to our team. Brad and Scott, both from Axial, bring decades of experience to our team. Their first event was at the Championship round of Axial's own West Coast Championship event held in Cisco Grove, Ca.

Scott Hughes had this to say after returning from the Axial West Coast Championships. "My first impression of the FX-R's was the linear feel and extensive programming I could do to get the exact feel I was looking for in the throttle profile and braking profile. The latter of the two being much more important, I focused on braking, mainly. I went with a 60% braking power front and rear. This allowed me to drive down a hill in complete control on super steep descents, while still enabling me to dig appropriately to get the rig to rotate or bite and grab a ridge. I think the other nice feature, one that is of extreme importance, is the sheer size and weight of the FX-R's. The small size allows us to set them side-by-side to each other and still have room for a battery, receiver, and BEC all on the intended electronics tray. And, most importantly, the FX-R's are light keeping our center of gravity as low as possible."

Chris Sturdy TQ'd and won all 3 classes, 2WD, 4wd and Truck stock (17.5) at the Queensland State Championships using the Tekin RS Pro ESC. "Thanks for making a great ESC," said Chris. Congratulations Chris!!

The RS gets the job done where HP is crucial: "Just want to say thanks to Tekin for providing me awesome speedos. I used an RS to win 1/12th stock(Cleveland Indoor Champs). I used an RS Pro in my World GT car. Missed TQ by .1 and had the fastest single lap of the event. I just couldn't really get the clean run needed to win. The speedos performed flawlessly. That is now the 2nd major win in 17.5 for the RS (Vegas and Cleveland) against a larger field of other brands. I think it goes without saying that these speedo's get the job done in a class where H.P. is crucial." -Donny Lia -- visit Donny's official site
