Help page

Applies to: HotWire 2.8 and below running on Windows Vista32.

Error Description:
On some Windows Vista installations, the operating system makes a duplicate copy of a file that is used during speed control software updates. The file should exist only in the folder that the HotWire is installed to. The unexpected behavior that can occur by with the duplicate file is that even after getting a software update from Tekin's website, the old file is pointed to by Windows Vista. Further, even uninstalling and reinstalling the old file is pointed to and only the old list of software revisions is shown, preventing the user from updating the speed control to the latest release.

Solution:
Figure out where the "duplicate file" that won't go away is
kept, which is in a secret place called the "Virtual Store", and delete it. After deleting the file uninstall/reinstall the new HotWire.

1. The file is in
C:\Users\User_name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program
Files\Tekin HotWire\ folder, and is named tekin.esc (in the
above line, User_name is whatever your profile name is, like
Chris or whatever). Browse to this location using windows explorer.
2. Right-click the tekin.esc file and
choose delete.
3. Use a browser such as Internet Explorer to go to http://www.teamtekin.com/hotwire.html (Tekin's website) and download the TekinHotWire.zip to an easy to find location such as the Desktop and right click the file and select "Open With--> Compressed (Zipped) Folders". Accept all the wizard's defaults.
4. Use Windows Explorer to browse to the unzipped folder and double click the Setup.bat file to automatically uninstall/reinstall.

Software developers are working on a better solution to this unpredictable and sporadic problem but at least for now the workaround will allow users experiencing this issue to put recent releases into the speed control.

Please do call us if there are any issues, we all have been there and get pretty frustrated when software that we have paid good money for gives us any problems, so we hate to see anyone in this situation with our software.
