Team Tekin graphic artist and Team PRP owner, Ben Prenevost and Team Tekin/Team PRP team mate, Doug Harvey haven't raced their Modified Clodbusters the last couple of years but decided it was time to dust them off and head back out to the Ramada Inn in Montpellier, Ohio in search of another NRCTPA 4wd Modified Monster Truck title. "Several days before the race we felt a little rusty while driving the trucks again but the driving finger came back surprisingly quick. With just a few laps on a test course both of us were driving our trucks really well around the track. We have quite a few years racing Modified Clodbusters so we both expected to do well at the race," said Ben.

Modified Monster Truck racing started Saturday morning. The track layout was fairly open with one tight spot and a few tricky jump placements. 2 rounds were run on day 1. Each truck had 3 runs in each lane and 6 runs per round. The best 5 lap times from round 1 and 2 are added together for best overall time. Ben's first truck was up early in the round at number 8 of 50 entries in the class. He set fast lap times in the low 9's and was immediately the truck to beat early in the round. Throughout rounds 1 and 2 Ben's first truck's lap times kept him on top until his good friend and team mate, Doug Harvey pulled in fast and consistent runs giving him the lead bumping Ben to #2. Ben's other 2 trucks he entered were also doing well sitting in 3rd and 5th place along with Doug's trucks sitting in 1st place and 8th place. Saturday night results had Tekin Powered Team PRP Berzerker chassis' sitting at the top of the field with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 8th place after day 1!
Day 2 had a more wide open track layout with some slight corners that you could hit fast if you could grab the right line and navigate the central jump well. The same running order from day 1 was used on day 2. This put Ben's 2nd place truck up first and he struggled to find the track rhythm. He moved to a better viewing position of the central jump and was able to find a good racing line and grabbed 5 good lap times in the mid and low 6's. Doug was up later in the round with his faster trucks and had some really great runs in the mid and low 6's as well. Doug seemed to have hold of 1st place with Ben in 2nd. Ben's 5th place truck from Day 1 was up as his last run of day 2. Sitting in 5th place he wanted to get in some good clean runs and try to make up time on 4th place. And that is what he did. Almost every lap was in the low 6's matching the 6.19 fastest lap of the day and then setting a new fast lap of the day at 6.08!
Freestyle was up next after racing for the day was over. Doug and Ben entered Freestyle and Doug was up first putting on a good show. He was judged a 24 out of 30 putting him in 1st place. Ben went up after Doug and was able to squeeze another point out of the judges with a 25. After several more Freestyles Ben was now in a 3 way tie for 2nd place. The tie was broken with all 3 trucks running at the same time! Ben was able to grab a 27 from the judges which gave him 2nd place for Freestyle!
After Freestyle it was time to give away the hardware. The 4wd Modified Monster Truck class is about the last award given at the event. Ben was called up for 4th place and also received 3rd place and then was told to wait. Doug was called up and received the 2nd place trophy and Ben was then handed the 1st place trophy. "I thought I was getting 4th, 3rd and 2nd place, but I ended up just barely beating Doug by a few hundredths of a second to take the win! We both thought Doug won, it was pretty surprising getting the trophy! I actually apologized to Doug!" said Ben as he laughed.

Ben used the Tekin FX Pro ESC and Tekin 3400 PowerCell to power dual 12 Turn motors in all of his Berzerker Chassis ClodBusters. "The FX Pro easily handled the power without breaking a sweat. I am extremely happy running the FX Pro in each of my race trucks," said Ben. Doug ran the Tekin G11 with 6 cell NiMh packs and dual 10 turn motors in each of his Berzerker Chassis ClodBusters. Doug and Ben are past NRCTPA Monster Truck Champions winning with Tekin power since 2005.
