The Roar Region 3 Electric On-Road Championships hosted at SpeedWOOD R/C Complex in Goldsboro, NC went off without a hitch this past Saturday. With the best from Region 3 attending and attendees from as far away as Indiana, the mains were stacked! 1/10 Stock was the center piece of the event with multiple regional and national A-mainers filling the field. Recent carpet national A-main qualifier Ken Miller was attending from Ft Wayne, Indiana and got the farthest traveler award. Others came from South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland to represent their region's talent.
Heat 2 Round 1 of TC Stock, Local Jesse Bean Set TQ followed by Ken Miller on a 20 lap pace. During Heat 3 fellow North Carolinians Laurie Willis and George Ryals joined the 20 lap club with Laurie setting a new TQ by 3/4 of a second over Jesse and George took third. After resorting for round 2 Jimmy Mac found some speed after some mishaps in R1 and put together a 20 lap run accending to the third spot just ahead of George who also had a good run with a faster 20 laps run than in R1. Round 3 was the final attemp and was the best qualifying battle of the day as the top 4 flipped around for the lead for the first minutes of the qualifier. As the Race seasoned the top 2 emerged in a battle all the way to the end as Jesse and Laurie flopped back and forth in the top spot until the buzzer sounded and Jesse prevailed by less than half a second over Laurie with both on new TQ paces of 21 laps. George, Jimmy, Ken and Chris Johnson, Mike Bright, Alex Carr, Manuel Wis, and B-Main Winner and Bump-up Ernie Roberts set the field for the A-Main event!
In the Main event your TQ Jesse Bean lead a clean start and just as it looked like he may be able to leave the pack your second place qualifier Laurie Willis latched on to the wheel and turned some of the fastest laps of the day closing in to within a half a second of the leader. As the top two began to gap the field Laurie made a nasty mistake rolling on to his roof allowing Jesse to stretch his lead and George and Jimmy to take second and third before Laurie could rejoin the effort in fourth. Then on Lap 12 as George and Jimmy battled out for second George suffered a collision that would put him out of the event and that left Jimmy and Laurie to battle it out for second with Laurie prevailing over Jimmy in the closing minutes. Ken Miller quietly shadowed the top 3 followed by Chris Johnson who completed the top 5. Your final order was Jesse Bean (Tekin RS/Redline 17.5), Laurie Willis (Tekin RS), Jimmy Mac, Ken, Miller (Tekin RS), Chris Johnson, Alex Carr, Manuel Wis, Ernie Roberts, George Ryals (Tekin RS) and Mike Bright (Tekin RS) who suffered problems and a DNS. Thanks to all those who attended SpeedWOOD this weekend and Congratulations to your new ROAR Region 3 On-Road Champions!
